I'm so determined to win it for Kevin, I've been posting every single day to facebook and twitter because I get more entries every time I do. And posting a 500+ word story to your blog gives you a ton of entries. I already posted to Anda's blog, now for this one!

One of Kevin's favorite things in the world to do is to go fishing with his dad. He gets giddy about it every year as the season rolls around; it's about the only time you can get him up at 3am and NOT have a cranky man on your hands. ;) To sit in a boat all day with his dad, just hanging out and talking, reeling in the fighters, swatting off the mosquitos and drinking their diet Pepsi... apparently it's nothing short of a man's dream. Actually, when you put it like that, maybe I could get into it! It's just the early mornign thing that doesn't thrill me.

He'll roll out of bed about 2:30, because even though his dad is supposed to show up at 3, he'll be at our house by 2:40. The dog doesn't even get up with him at that hour! Kevin throws on pants, a couple of sweatshirts, maybe an extra jacket (it's FREEZING on the river in October!); grabs his hat, gloves, mosquito repellent, a few protien bars and a PBJ sandwich; rubs a toothbrush over his teeth for a few seconds; and they're out the door. When he comes home that night (reeking of citrus insect spray and dead fish... mmmmm) he'll be full of stories about the fight he had with the king that got hooked in the tail and dragged the boat, or the one he clubbed so hard that the hook popped out on its own, or the giant that his dad fought with for a half hour before draggin it into the boat. I'm pretty sure that his excitement over those sacred Saturdays rivals even the excitement of our wedding day - no contest!

There's something satisfyingly manly about dragging a squirming fish into a boat, clubbing it expertly over the head, and bringing it home to your wife as your delicious prize. I can tell by the glint that comes into his eyes whenever the subject comes up, by the pride that tinges his words as he recounts the best stories to a fresh listener. But really, deeper than the masculinity boost, the real reason that Kevin loves these fishing trips is because of the hours - days - spent side by side with his dad. Nothing in this world makes him quite so happy. There's something sacred in the bond between father and son... and thirty years doesn't diminish that one little bit.

The reason I want to win this contest so badly is because it would absolutely make Kevin's YEAR. I can just see the disbelief and unparalleled excitement on his face!! He's wanted to go to Alaska and fish for years now, and to be able to take his father on a three day trip would just be the absolute ultimate. We are both entrepreneurs, and he works extremely hard building both his therapy practice and my photography business in order to provide a good life for us. It's been really difficult creating two companies from teh ground up, but his work ethic and financial habits are really something to talk about. If anyone can make this work,a nd work well, it's going to be him. I will do everythign I can to increase our chances of giving him this amazing opportunity! It's something that he would look back on for the rest of his life with pride, excitement, and of course... incredibly big stories.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

The cabinets are being delivered on Thursday!! I can't believe it - the end of the kitchen remodel could finally be at hand. :p Current complication is that Kevin jammed his finger at a basketball game tonight and we're not quite sure how the building/hanging of the cabinets is going to go, him being one-handed at the moment... but somehow it will work. It has to. Delilah came over today (hey PS, check out their Christmas photo shoot on Anda's blog) to deliver Christmas goodies and we hung out for a couple of hours. Delilah is a riot! She was in top form today, showing us her "handstand" (which consists of bending over to put her head & hands on the floor), making her tents (sheets draped across the couches, of course), and singing her newly learned Christmas carols.

There were several great quotes, but the best one came after she was finished with her handstand - she stood back up, wiped the hair out of her eyes and said, "Oh, I messed up my hair... sorry, guys." :D

This is her playing some combination of knock-knock, hide and seek, peekaboo, and a chasing game.
